July 2024: Action & Contemplation
Protest & vigil at Labour HQ, and sign up now for a peace pilgrimage
Every month, we round up events and opportunities from our Passionist partners and others who share similar interests/values — in ecology, social justice and meditation, particularly direct action as/when we hear about it. If you’re involved in any of these and would like your event to be featured in Passio, send us an email at hello@passiozine.com.
This month: July 2024
Our friends at Christian Climate Action have been holding a prayerful protest and vigil outside Labour HQ, every Wednesday until the election: urging the Labour Party to call a moratorium on the Rosebank Oil Field development. One Wednesday left to join in!
Towards the end of the month, CCA also begin their week of action urging National Trust to stop banking with Barclays — see this link for suggestions on what you could do to participate.
Our partners Green Christian have developed a new workshop to be run in churches, helping them to consider their responses to the climate crisis. Peace, Love and Climate Justice will be run for the first time on July 10th as an online demonstration, along with a guide for anyone who might like to run it themselves.
Looking ahead, our friends Peace Pilgrimage are undertaking a six-day walk from Malvern to Telford, in witness against the SDSC Arms Fair. This takes place in September, but you can sign up now as either a participant or to assist those taking part. More details here.

“I certainly grew up with the definition of family being beyond biological.”
Read this interview with Martha Hennessy, granddaughter of Dorothy Day, and US peace activist in her own right — as she reflects on the legacy of the Catholic Worker Movement today, and finding her own way back to it.
The interview was originally published in Independent Catholic News, and here re-posted by London Catholic Worker; both of whom we’re proud to call partner organisations.
No Small Victories: Community Tales of Resistance
On the podcast No Small Victories, Lucy Nabijou talks to guests surviving and resisting the UK’s Hostile Environment immigration policy, and explores what a kinder and more hopeful society could look like.
In their latest episode, Lucy talks to our own Martin Newell, about his work for migrant justice with the Catholic Worker, and being a Passionist priest.
