We’re very excited to say that the new, Autumn 2024 edition of our printed PASSIO Magazine will be available this weekend, on the Feast Day of St Paul of the Cross — October 19th.
You can order a copy right now, and use the coupon code SUBSTACK to get a 20% discount.
For those unfamiliar, alongside this Substack we produce a bi-annual printed magazine exploring the same topics as we do here: ecology, community, solidarity, monastic traditions: looking for maps towards a more meaningful life.
Some of the articles will find their way onto Substack over time, but some are exclusive to the print edition, and allow us to really stretch our legs with a deeper dive into interviews and reflections. Grab yourself a copy, or subscribe below to get some sneak previews over the next few weeks.
In Passio 14:
Doomsday Preppers
How do we live in the face of uncertainty, fear and the end of the world as we’ve known it? We invited authors and podcasters Elizabeth Oldfield and David Benjamin Blower to share a conversation on this apocalyptic age.
Welcoming the Stranger
The Catholic Worker Farm, a temporary home for destitute, asylum-seeking women, exemplifies the kind of selfless care for the poor and the ‘least’ of society that is central to Passionist spirituality. Perhaps unsurpringly, it has not been an easy road.
Onwards & Upwards
How do we respond to God when the parameters of change — when the internal circumstances of our very own bodies announce a new phase of life, thanks to ageing or illness? Sr Martin Joseph Taylor and canonical hermit Rachel Denton share their surprising responses.
Plus:
— Poverty, St Paul & Me: investigating St Paul of the Cross’s ‘voluntary poverty’ in the 21st Century
— Good in Common: reclaiming the idea of the ‘common good’ for a new politics
— Peaceful Pilgrimage in a Violent World: how our everyday presence shapes things around us
+ More
We’ve been fortunate to have some really incredible collaborators on this Issue, including - as mentioned - Elizabeth Oldfield, David Benjamin Blower, and also eco-activist Francesca Willow, along with some fantastic photographers and illustrators. All of it printed beautifully by the team at Jump, who go above and beyond to make this environmentally sustainable (and to make it POP of course).
And, naturally, we have the collective wisdom of some inspiring people of faith doing the work on the ground: Passionist priests Pat Duffy and Martin Newell; Hallam’s canonical Hermit, Rachel Denton; the staff of the Catholic Worker Farm, and more.
We’re really proud of this issue and what it represents for us at the PASSIO Project — grab yourself a copy and see for yourself :)
